A young man is now in critical condition after he was struck by a motorist who fled from the scene after the crime.
The mishap occurred at around 10:50 oclock Monday evening on Chester Pike at Sellers Avenue, Ridley Park in Delaware County.
Police identified the victim as Christopher Brooks, age 18 from Crum Creek Drive in Woodlyn. According to witnesses, he was either riding his bike or walking it across an intersection when for unknown reasons; he was struck by a gray or silver pickup truck.
At the time of the accident, Brooks was not wearing a helmet so he sustained head injuries and a broken leg.
He was immediately rushed by medics to Crozer Chester Medical Center and was pronounced in critical condition.
The driver did not even stop to look after his victim but immediately fled from the scene. Police are now on the look-out for the striking vehicle, identified as a Ford F-150 pickup truck.
Photos from the surveillance video of a near-by home security system were released to the police early Tuesday morning. It showed that there was the headlight of a truck driving past the camera moments before the accident.
Investigators believed that the vehicle sustained front-end damage due to the collision. The police are gathering more info to identify the vehicles from the small part of the bug deflector of the vehicle that was left behind.
They also checked the surveillance video installed at the nearby Taylor Hospital for more clues.
It was after11:00 oclock Monday evening when the police responded to a call of an accident in West Sellers Avenue and Chester Pike in Ridley Park.
The victim was identified as 18-year-old Christopher Brooks, who was reported to be in critical condition awaiting surgery Tuesday morning at Medical Center of Crozier-Chester. Hospital authorities say stated that Brooks sustained head injury and fractured leg.
According to the authorities, Brooks was on his bicycle going home from a friends house when he was struck by a pick-up truck. Police assumed that the victim was in the midst of West Chester Pike preparing to cross the street when he was hit by the pick-up.
Police are looking for an older 1997-2003 model of a gray or silver pick-up Ford F-150 truck that was believed to have a front-end damage on its front passenger as they recovered a side bug deflector part at the scene.
Early Tuesday morning, a resident of the area released its surveillance video to the police where they saw a truck speeding southbound after passing a car along West Chester Pike minutes before the accident. The truck turned left when it reached West Sellers Avenue and continued driving on fast speed.
The police are requesting for any information from witnesses who have seen the vehicle matching the description given.
