There was so much action early this morning which lasted for more than five hours when a collision between a dump truck and a tractor-trailer blocked the roadway. The best option of traffic was to close the bustling area following that serious two-vehicle mishap.
On Thursday at about 3:30 o’clock in the morning, the tractor-trailer jackknifed causing the mishap at the southern lanes at the N. J. Turnpike prior to Exit 2 , R- 322 at Woolwich Twp.
The trailer tractor pushed the dump truck off the roadway into the woods.
According to Gloucester County dispatchers, the driver of the dump truck sustained undisclosed injuries after he was being stuck in the wreckage. He was airlifted by a medical helicopter to Cooper University Hospital.
Due to the wreck, all lanes going south were closed staring from Exit 4 to Exit 2. During the investigation and cleanup, he northbound traffic stayed open.

At around 5:30 o’clock in the morning, the lanes were still closed and continued; although some cars and big rigs caught in the lane were allowed to move on.
The roads remained closed four hours after the mishap as the crews were clearing the scene.
What added to the traffic jam were the rainy weather and another accident that occurred before Exit 4.
It was only after 8:30 o’clock in the morning that the roads were finally opened.
The accident happened at about 3:37o’clock in the morning when a dump truck and a tractor trailer crashed at the vicinity of 19.7 mile marker. The jackknifed tractor trailer was blocking all lanes of SB along the highway.

Authorities reported that early Thursday morning, a mishap involving a tractor-trailer and a dump truck resulted to the closure of the southern lanes of the J. N.Turnpike along Parkville Rd. in West Deptford for hours.
The accident occurred at around 3:37 o’clock in the morning at19.7 milepost in West Deptford, Gloucester County.
According to the police, the driver of the tractor-trailer was trying to overtake the dump truck when the tractor struck the back of the dump truck.
Due to the collision, the tractor-trailer jack-knifed and pushed the dump truck out of the roadway and hit a tree a distance of 50 feet towards a wooded area.
The impact trapped the driver inside his dump truck had to be extricated by rescuers.
The operator of the tractor-trailer was identified as Vico Bertogli, age 60, resident of Toughkenamon, Pennsylvania, sustained minor injuries and refused being treated at the scene. The dump truck driver, identified as Lloyd Hartsell, age 53 resident of Monroeville, New Jersey, was delivered to the University Medical Center of Cooper by helicopter ambulance for treatment of critical injuries.
Exit 4/Route 73 until Exit 2/(Route 322, the whole length of lanes going south were closed for more than three hours. However, traffic was soon reopened.
