NORTHEAST PHILADELPHIA – Several deadly accidents happened in NE Philadelphia at the beginning of the New Year. Everybody is hoping that the coming weeks will be safer weeks.
Thursday morning, a two-car crash occurred that caused the injuries of several people. The accident took place 45 minutes after 6 o’clock in the morning at the intersection of Krewstown Road and Grant Avenue.
Police reported that two cars had a collision which impelled one car onto the sidewalk hitting a utility pole. There were two injured persons transported to the local hospital. One person, placed on a stretcher by emergency responders was brought by an ambulance to the local hospital. Another person sustained minor injuries and was also delivered to the hospital.
Investigation of the cause of the crash continues.
Early Saturday morning, the police are investigating a fatal two-vehicle mishap that happened at the Holmesburg part of the city. According to police, the operator of a Mazda 2010 hit the vehicle into a tractor trailer parked along the 9000 block of Torresdale Avenue at 2:25o’clock in the morning. The police stated that the Mazda was running at top speed when it veered off the roadway. Uncontrolled, the car burst into flame.
The driver of the car was trapped inside and the emergency crew was able to retrieve a badly incinerated body. Authorities could not identify sex, age or race but the police finally learned that it was a male.
Officials are investigating.
Next day was another black day as a 30-year-old female driver was killed when her car turned over in Northeast Philadelphia Sunday. Police reported that the accident happened around 4:30 o’clock early morning along Woodhaven Road, just within the vicinity of Knights Road exit.
The impact was immense that the woman sustained life-threatening injuries. She finally died at the at Torresdale Hospital.
The police are investigating the cause of the crash. Due to the mishap, Woodhaven Road was closed for a couple of hours while police did their investigation.
Philadelphia police are doing their investigation of two separate accidents that happened early Sunday morning.
Incident number one took place at around 2 o’clock in the morning at the corner of Somerset and 2nd Streets in the Fairhill section of the city.
Police related that two vehicles had a collision at the corner which sent one victim to the Temple University Hospital. Condition of patients remains unknown.
Accident number two happened at about 4:16 o’clock in the morning along Woodhaven Road along the vicinity of Knights Road in Northeast Philadelphia.
Police reported that a female driver identified as Ashley Aldworth, age 25, was heading east towards Woodhaven Road. For unknown reasons, she lost control of her Hyundai 2005 Tucson and struck the guard rail. The car then turned over and slipped down the embankment.
A 25-year-old female operator was not able to control her car, hit a guardrail on the eastbound side and caused the car to roll over onto its roof. The female operator was rushed to Aria Hospital of Frankford where she succumbed at 4:54 o’clock in the morning.
On January 20, a single-car crash occurred inside the campus of Grynedd Mercy College involving four students. The injured victims were transported to a local hospital. According to police, the mishap took place around 3:30 o’clock in the morning of Sunday.
After treatment, two students were sent home; while the other two were under observation.
