GERMANTOWN – An overnight accident in the city’s Germantown section injured two Philadelphia police officers. The mishap was caused by a driver who rear-ended the police cruiser.

At least, two police officers of Philly’s Police Department were injured in an accident overnight which happened in the Germantown. Now the operator of the erring vehicle is facing DUI charges.

The accident occurred an hour after midnight last Friday at the corner of Baynton Street and E. Chelten Avenue.

According to authority reports, the police car was cruising around the area and was rear-ended by a vehicle behind.

Due to the impact, the officers sustained various injuries on the head, neck and pelvis. Both victims were immediately transported to the University Hospital of Albert Einstein.

The operator of the striking vehicle was not injured; he was apprehended, taken into custody. After the investigation, he will be facing formal charges.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the officers and the suspect.
