A very serious crash occurred 10:40pm Monday on the northbound side US 1 in Bensalem north of the Street Road exits. Emergency personnel responded immediately. According to Bensalem police, a car lost control, rolled over several times then caught fire. A North Carolina woman was killed while seriously injuring two others. It appears to have been racing another car late Monday night.

Witnesses saw that the 2000 Volvo sedan was speeding in the 3100 block of northbound Lincoln Highway near Route 1 and Street Road. It appeared to be racing a white Ford Crown Victoria, said an off-duty police officer.

At around 10:30 p.m., the Volvo apparently lost control at the northbound lanes and hit the Drivers Choice sign in the business parking lot, police said.

The occupants of the car, driver, Aurelio Xhepaj, and front-seat passenger, Mary Logan, both of Philadelphia, were ejected and seriously injured. Michelle Price, 19, the third passenger in the backseat was trapped in the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

Xhepai was immediately transported to Aria Healths Torresdale campus where he was listed in critical condition. Logan was taken to Capital Health systems in New Jersey for unspecified injuries. Her condition was not immediately known Tuesday.

Police said that the driver was not driving under DUI and alcohol was not the cause of the accident..

An employee at the Red Roof Inn, Brian Baez reported that at least seven people tried to rescue the third passenger and put out the fire which reached almost 19 ft, using fire extinguishers they took from the hotel. After wasting three fire extinguisher, the fire was still going strong.

Baez saw that a man and woman were ejected from the vehicle and bystanders kept them away from the burning car.
