A sleepy driver at the wheel of a moving truck was the cause of a car accident in Pennsylvania.

The Perkiomen Valley Patch reported that the accident happened in the afternoon of March 10, 2012 at the intersection of Skippack Pike and Church Road in Skippack Township.

Police confirmed that the driver of a Penske moving truck fell asleep at the wheel. The truck drifted into the next lane and hit a Ford F-350 pickup truck. It was not reported if either driver was injured in this collision. But a passenger in the Ford pickup truck was brought to an area hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.

The police are trying to discover why the driver was sleepy which could have been due to alcohol or medication. Pending result of investigation, the names of the drivers and the injured were not given out to the media.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s 2010 Crash Facts and Statistics showed that there were 87,949 injury accidents that year. In Montgomery County alone, there were 8,284 accidents in 2010; and out of these, 4,155 resulted in an injury and 30 resulted in fatalities

Driving drowsy is considered a type of distracted driving. It distracts the motorist’s attention away from the road which is a great risk for the driver, passengers and other vehicles.
